Ms. Vannaksereyraksmey Var has joined the Summit sponsored by Kobe Shoin Japan-Cambodia Project. She is particulary interested in issues related to child education and is working on a study in Siem Reap entitled: “Gender Differentiated Issues in Balancing Work and Education for Working Children in the Context of Tourist Boom.” This research gives insight into the underlying factors that engage children into child labor and it explores reasons why they choose to discontinue their education. It reveals the obstacles that these children face when balancing multiple roles (education, and both paid and unpaid work). Ms. Var encourages all participants to help her in her mission to find solutions to getting Cambodian children back to school and to persuade them that education is the only key to breaking the cycle of poverty. In the future, Ms. Var aspires to be a successful social development specialist and/or University Instructor who provides consultancy on gender and child issues.
